StepBuddies is the first smart shoe that counts steps for the purpose of achieving a goal, and every goal starts with the first step.

Just as a step involves moving one foot up and down, that simple movement creates momentum. One step becomes two steps. Three steps become four steps. You get the idea! StepBuddies is not only a shoe, but a change towards a more positive direction. Everything in life requires motivation to get positive, and StepBuddies lets you get instant positive feedback by showing the steps that you have taken. If you just take one step, it is already a positive change because you are now going for a goal. The challenge today with the instant feedback that we receive from technology (computers, cell phones, video games, etc.) is that it is all sedentary or inactive. Most all technology is not connected to the body part. StepBuddies gives instant feedback from your foot that actually creates the movement. This can be confusing especially to kids. StepBuddies is a smarter shoe. It is shoes meant to inspire people to not only get active but also to get moving in a positive direction.

Our Mission

Our goal is to inspire and motivate kids and adults to take steps in a positive direction, by providing a smarter shoe. The shoe keeps people accountable by instantly counting every step taken, encouraging people to set goals.

Our Story

StepBuddies began when Max Haslacher had a dream to encourage movement and staying healthy. As a child growing up in the 1990's, Max and all other kids at that age jumped, ran, played and moved until the cusp of the digital evolution. Now in the midst of new smart phones every year and enticing video game consoles every other year, both children and adults these days are sedentary and glued to their respective screens.

The world is constantly changing and people are moving less and less as technologies advance. Max wanted to change that and decided to team up with Anish Patel of Brush Buddies to create StepBuddies.

Our Solution

PROBLEM :

Today, only about 1/3 of kids age 5-8 are getting enough physical activity and are overweight. Obesity puts kids at risk for numerous medical problems, including asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer, not to mention low self-esteem and low self-confidence.

Today over 60% of women are obese. Being overweight or obese can increase your risk of: Heart disease, Stroke, Type 2 diabetes, High blood pressure, Breathing problems, Arthritis, Gallbladder disease, Some kinds of cancer. Walking 30 minutes daily can help prevent all of these conditions or make them better.

SOLUTION:

We created StepBuddies, a shoe that integrates fun with physical activities. By providing incentives for exercising, kids are inclined to move more and stay active. Here’s how we do it:

  • StepBuddies has included a patent pending step counting technology call i-tally.
  • We have a profile system that keeps a log of the steps and allows parents to give prizes and allowances for goals reached.
  • i-tally resets every day to give a fresh new count to encourage daily exercise.

A quality, comfortable, stylish walking shoe for everyone, where one shoe counts and displays every step until 2,500 steps are taken a day and the display declares you a “WINNER!”. At midnight, the shoe resets itself again at 0 steps. Making you hit that goal everyday. It’s fun. It’s challenging. It’s trying to take at least 2,500 steps a day which translates into 30-40 minutes of walking, running, jumping – just being physically active. It’s connecting body and mind; stepping and counting. It’s fun!
